Hello screenwriters!
As a writer, a big fears is, I've written something that's been done before. You work hard on a story, show it to a friend and inevitably the say. "It's just like..."
Or worse, you write a story and six months later a movie comes out with the same idea. One recent instance; I was watching the previews for Hotel Transylvania and realized I had written a similar short screenplay.
In my script, Dracula's angry because his son is sparkling and dating a human girl. In hotel Transylvania, Dracula is having trouble with his daughter who wants to date a human. Not completely the same, granted but enough to make me think "So Close!" if only I had been in right place and the right time.
Has this ever happened to you, a movie is released that is similar to a script you wrote or great idea you were developing? Just curious.
A home for screenwriters to mull, vent, discuss, agonize, pity, share and moan.

How do you write?
Hello Screenwriters!!
The process of writing is different for each writer. There's no right or wrong way. Some writers need a specific time, as if they are clocking in, while others write as the ideas come. Some need quiet, while other writers may write in a bustling coffee shop filled with people. Some writers like to wing it, while others need an outline.
A few years ago, I wrote on the bus to work with pen and paper. When I got home, I would take the pages and enter them into the computer, correcting mistakes as I went.
However now days I mainly write at my desktop using scripped.
I find, having and outline greatly helps the process, however I know some writers hate outlining.
So what about you, how do you write? What tools do you use, Final Draft? Movie magic? Celtex? Scripped? Do you need noise or quiet? Do you have a writing room, an office with a big, "Do not disturb sign on it?" Do you create an outline before you write?
What is your process?

My Fellow Screenwriters!
Are you lonely? Do you stare at your screen, carefully crafting your script with no feedback? Maybe you would like to join a writing group but haven't found one in your area.
I am creating this blog, as a home to discuss the problems we face writing our scripts.
Who am I? I'm just a lonely screenwriter struggling with the rest of you, hoping that the problems I face may be the same as yours.
So is anyone out there? Any other writers looking to discuss the craft of screenwriting?
Richard (The Lonely Screenwriter)
